Golfito to Boquete (Panama)

Sat 15th October

Today's task: to do battle at the border and get ourselves into Panama via the crossing at Paso Canoas on Highway 2.

Our hotel was located on the edge of the ‘Golfo Dulce’ and when we got up this morning the clouds were already gathering.

Rather perversely I think we would have been upset if it had been sunny because we would have wanted to spend more time in Costa Rica. However, we weren’t disappointed as the rain was falling before we had finished loading the bikes and didn't stop until just before the border and then only to restock.

At the border crossing we were befriended by a Costa Rican couple riding a Goldwing. They took it upon themselves to assist us through all the formalities and insisted on waiting until we were through. The process took three hours and our grateful thanks go to Frank and his better half Saray for their invaluable help.

Once we were on the road again it was a quick ride down the Pan American Highway to David and then North up into the hills for a few miles to Boquete our destination for the night. The evening was spent enjoying some fine food and wine (ok beer, it just didn't sound so good) whilst listening to the incessant rain outside.
